Something for the Weekend 30-01-16

Something for the Weekend 30-01-16 (or "Episode 4", if you prefer). In this week's episode I talk about adaptations of H.G. Welles' War of the Worlds, digressing onto related topics like Dr Who and The Time Machine. Fifteen minutes streaming consciousness - like being in a cafe with me when I've had way too much coffee.

SFTW Extra - Pickman's Model by H.P Lovecraft

Something for the Weekend Extra - Pickman's Model by H.P.Lovecraft. Huzzah!! I read HPL's classic chiller in this longer than usual episode which is more akin to my other podcast, Sometimes. So why don't I just call it "Sometimes", then? Well, because I'm going to stick with the SFTW brand for 2016 and hopefully build up my listenership with something "regular" - as opposed to something "Sometimes". A cunning plan, no? Something for The Weekend 2

Okay, so the blog post is late - but the episode wasn't. Something for The Weekend 2 is now live in my public podcast feed. In it, I talk about my only Bowie experience (Milton Keynes 1983), the Murdoch - Hall engagement, and a film I very much enjoyed called The Visit.

U&F 9 Ebooks / A Christmas Carol 3 Podcast

New stuff at Patreon today. Episode 9 of Underwood and Flinch: Underground in ebook format (mobi and epub), and episode 3 of my PatreonCast production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol .

Actually, it's a bit weird working on A Christmas Carol now that Christmas has gone, kind of like still having the decorations up. I'm in two minds about continuing with it because it takes me away from my writing of Underground for days at a time. Personally, I'd prefer to make the PatreonCast podcast a kind of news and chat type thing and leave the classics readings aside for a bit so I can get some serious writing done. Still, that said, this episode is now done and I'm very pleased with it. I hope you enjoy it too :-)

Something for the Weekend 01-10-16

Since this is my tenth year in podcasting I thought it was about time I did something new, a bit different ... but not too different. Different-ish. A shorter podcast, something that I can deliver more frequently in my public feed; something that touches on stuff that's been occurring in the week. And so, here it is, Something for the Weekend. I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, I'll do more, more often. And next time, I'll get it out at the start of the weekend :-)

Resolution

Just back from first outing on a slightly delayed New Year resolution to go for "power" walk every few days. I did over my goal of 5,000 steps, striding (powerfully) along the road from Rosslare to Kilrane and back. I shall now reward myself with a fry-up.

Cliff Erosion at Rosslare

There's been a lull in the storms this morning, so my wife and I went for a walk along the cliffs at Rosslare Harbour. We had to watch our step as the storms have caused a lot of the cliff edge to erode. I took a few pics, one below and some others in a Facebook album that you can view by clicking this link ... you know, in case you're interested in that kind of thing.

Howling in the Spider Hole

Here's a view through my current personal nemesis, the howling hole - as mentioned on my last podcast. You can see I found a new friend inside. I can't imagine he catches too many flies, but something must be keeping him plump. Maybe he lives on mould spores. Lovely.

Happy New Year 2

Happy New Year again! The final episode of HP Lovecraft's The Thing on the Doorstep is now live in my public podcast feed. Should be in iTunes etc later today. If you can't wait, here's a player link:

And if you want to hear the hole thing, uninterrupted, here it is on Youtube Any likes or shares of the video would be very appreciated) :-)

Happy New Year!

Just a quick one to say, Happy New Year, Listeners! May you have a wonderful, healthy and happy 2016!
As for me, right now I'd settle for a few days of dry, wind-less weather. Here in Wexford we've had another storm - the 6th since November. In fact, since we've been here, the weather has done very little but storm. Many towns have been badly affected, but where we are is still (thankfully) above water. Below is some drone footage of the impact of Storm Frank on our neighbouring town of Enniscorthy. Click here for the whole story.

Grotesque and Hilarious Underwood and Flinch Images

A while ago I used the A.I. art generator, DALL-E, to create some images of Underwood and Flinch. The results were … er … not good, and ca...
